With the Powerball lottery jackpot sitting at a near-record $1.2 billion on Tuesday, November 1st, 2022, it’s only natural to start daydreaming about what you would do with all that money.

But before you start making plans to quit your job and jet off to Bora Bora, and have a coffee with Bezos, it’s important to understand that winning the lottery isn’t always a positive experience.

In fact, there are some very real downsides to taking home a massive jackpot such as Powerball.

I’m not talking about 100,000 USD here. Of course, I would love to win that and nobody would care about me still, but we are talking about more than a billion!

Here are four reasons why you might not want to win the Powerball lottery after all.

1. You’ll Be Bombarded with Begging Calls and Emails

If you win the Powerball lottery, get ready for your inbox and voicemail to be flooded with requests for money.

Not only will friends and family members who you haven’t heard from in years start coming out of the woodwork, but complete strangers will also begin reaching out in the hopes that you’ll be generous enough to help them out.

It can be extremely overwhelming — and even a little scary — to suddenly have all these people vying for your attention and money.

2. Your Privacy Will Be Gone

Once you win the lottery, say goodbye to your privacy. News of your good fortune will spread like wildfire, and before you know it, you’ll have journalists camped out on your front lawn and paparazzi following you wherever you go.

If you’re not careful, it’s easy to get caught up in the glamour and excitement of it all and forget that playing it too public can be dangerous.

3. You Might Go Broke

While it might seem like winning the Powerball lottery is a surefire way to become instantly rich, that’s not always the case.

Just ask William “Bud” Post III, who won $16.2 million in Pennsylvania’s Super 7 game in 1988 but ended up bankrupt just seven years later after blowing his entire fortune on bad investments, lavish gifts for friends and family members, luxury cars, houses, and prostitutes.

This is an old story, but just Google the keyword: “Powerball winner bankrupt” and you will see for yourself.

If you’re not careful, it’s very easy to go through a lot of money very quickly — especially if you have no experience handling such a large sum of cash.

4. Karma Is a B$tch And It Might Hit You Back Bad

I did bad things in my life, I will not lie. Some were not legal at all, some were in the grey-zone area but all of them got forgotten as if nothing happened.

I will not list them here because lots of them I’m not really proud of them.

But I was unknown and I had nothing special going on in my life.

Don’t panic, and don’t call the cops, I’m talking about 30 years ago.

However, like politicians and stars that rise, some people make a living to dig down the rabbit hole and get you in trouble.

Once they have what they want they will blackmail you and ask for money and will expose everything to the public.

Have you cheated on your wife before? Did you hurt a little kitty when you were young? Do you have a mental disease? Did you force-kiss a girl back in highscool?

Imagine all these being exposed! To your family, public, and social media.

Frankly, this is what I personally would fear the most. AH.
